I’m a builder, a strategist, and a firm believer that the most resilient technology is the kind we understand, own, and host ourselves.
Whether I’m supporting a customer’s high-tech project, designing a high-speed digital mesh network across a mountain range or fine-tuning a suite of locally hosted, AI-enhanced digital services on a custom-built server, my heart and mind lives at the intersection of Embedded Computing, Wireless Networking, and Emergency Communications (EmCom).
A Multidisciplinary Professional Foundation
Beyond the workbench, I bring a diverse professional background that spans over a decade in electronic component distribution and technical sales, complemented by several years in industrial distribution.
My career has been shaped by formal training across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic and computer systems and technologies. This multidisciplinary palette allows me to look at a technical challenge and see the entire system—from the supply chain and manufacturing standards to the physical mechanics and digital logic. This broad experience enables me to approach complex problems with a consultative, solution-oriented mindset that effectively bridges the gap between hardware engineering, industrial infrastructure, and business development.
A Decade of Additive Manufacturing
My journey into the “maker” world took a significant step in 2014 when I built my first 3D printer: a mini-Kossel RepRap. Choosing a delta-style printer as a first build was a trial by fire in electronics and calibration, but it solidified my “build-it” ethos. Today, I use 3D printing as a critical tool for my other projects—creating custom enclosures for radio nodes, specialized mounts for embedded sensors, and rapid prototypes for local infrastructure solutions. (Also, replacement parts for kids’ toys)
From the Adirondacks to Southern California
As an AREDN Ambassador for the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN), I’ve advised on the design and deployment of mesh networks for users in the United Kingdom, the Adirondack mountains, Colorado and my home in Orange County, California.
Locally, I serve as the Chief Radio Officer and Technical Director for Tri-Cities RACES, supporting the cities of San Clemente, Dana Point, and San Juan Capistrano. I regularly act as a subject matter expert for municipal staff and committees, helping bridge the gap between legacy infrastructure and modern, resilient digital solutions.
What You’ll Find Here
This blog is a digital workbench where I share the “how” and the “why” of my projects. You can expect:
- Project Deep Dives: Build logs featuring parts lists, build instructions, code snippets, and STL files for 3D-printed components of projects.
- The Future of Local Tech: Insights into locally hosted AI, self-hosted services, and privacy-oriented digital infrastructure.
- Perspectives: Articles on the importance of community-led emergency communications and the technologies of interest.
Let’s Connect
Technology is at its best when it serves the community. Business is best when it provides real value to customers.
Join the Effort: If you’re a hobbyist or a concerned citizen, I highly encourage you to get involved with your local amateur radio club or EmCom/CERT team. Everyone has something to contribute, and the only social networks that will matter in a real emergency are the ones we build in our own communities before emergencies happen.
Looking for a Resource? If you’re a municipal leader or staff person or a technical team looking for guidance on mesh networking, AI integration, or a business in Southern California looking for electronic component sourcing, high-performance computing servers or workstations and strategy, I’d love to hear from you.
